Amateur Scene
Some fine amateur golfers have grown and been nurtured from within the club including Mr. Lewis “Lew” Seager. Lew reached the final stages of the
English Amateur one year and played 19 times for Lancashire. Mr. Geoffrey Robinson became one of the club's finest, with numerous victories in club.
He was later honoured with the club's Captaincy and Presidency.
More recently, names like Alan Bannister, Bill Barlow, Brian Hickey and Jim Paton, come to mind. However, one name stands out, Malcolm (Mike) Gamble.
Mike won the Club Championship 9 times in 11 years, with only two interruptions by, previously mentioned, Bill Barlow. In total, Mike has won the Club
Championship no less than 17 times, along with many other competitions, both, inside and outside the club. A detailed record of his achievements can be
seen in the ‘golfers’ bar.
Ladies Section
Initially restricted to 50, but later rising to 70 playing members, our Ladies Section is vibrant, if a little short in numbers. Over the years they
have been an integral part of the club and the clubs activities. The Ladies were, only quite recently, given the vote in club affairs. A little
behind Emily Pankhurt's successes, however, none of our Ladies were forced to chain themselves to the railings. Full membership is available to any
of our Lady members which would give them the opportunity to stand for Council. Further, the Council would certainly welcome applications from
Ladies seeking membership of the club.
